Music in Nantes

Hello guys ! We're going to talk about music in Nantes: you are going to discover our bands and our events.

In our first article, we're going to tell you about events.

« Les Folles Journées »: it's a classical music festival created in 1995. Each year, the festival is devoted to different classical composers. In 2011, the theme was « Les Titans »: Brahms, Liszt, Mahler, Strauss.
At the beginning, it just happened in Nantes and lasted two days, whereas now, thanks to its huge success, it also takes place in other cities of our area. Better still, some big cities just like Tokyo, Rio or Bilbao, took the principle for themselves and created their « Folles Journées »

« Couvre-Feu »: It's a Rock, Reggae, Ska, Punk and Metal festival. Created in 2001, it occurs on the last week-end of August, in Corsept, a small city 50 km from Nantes. Its aim is to develop the culture in rural areas.
This year some bands are already confirmed: «  Les Ogres de Barback »(chanson francaise), « Danakil »(reggae) and « Suicidal Tendencies »(punk). The atmosphere is very festive !

« Hellfest »: The Hellfest Summer Open Air is an « extreme music » festival, one of the biggest  Metal festivals in Europe !! Created in 2006, it happens in June lasting three days in Clisson, a small city 30 km away from Nantes.
In 2010, the headliners were Kiss, Alice Cooper or Slayer for example ( it attracted more than 70,000 spectators) and this year, Iggy Pop & the Stooges, Ozzy Osbourne, and Scorpions are already confirmed. Here people enjoy beer !!...
We also can say that there are many debates as people have very different views about the festival, but perhaps they don't know just how festive the atmosphere is !

« Rendez-vous de l'Erdre »: It's a jazz festival wich takes place on the banks of the Erdre, a river which runs through Nantes. So it also takes place in La Chapelle sur Erdre, Sucé sur Erdre, Nort sur Erdre...on the last week-end before the start of school year. It's free and its aim is to make an elitist music style more accessible. Last year, it attracted about 150,000 spectators.

« Hip Opsession »; It's a hip-hop festival created in 2005. It occurs in Nantes and its suburbs during 15 days of events: gigs, dancing shows, training courses or debates...
It attracted about 13,000 spectators last year.
